If you are weighing up the idea of having a smaller wedding, read on as I explain some of the benefits of having a smaller event. These musings are my experiences over the last two years as the pandemic forced many people to downsize their plans for a dream wedding.
However, just because the wedding is small, it does not mean that it is any less unique or beautiful than any other ‘big’ day, and many of the happy couples I have worked with confirm that their experience was more than they could ever have hoped!
An Intimate Setting
With a smaller wedding, you have more time to enjoy the day with those closest to you. More time to take the whole day in, soak the day up, and relax. My role is to capture these unforgettable moments, from getting ready right through to the dancing in the evening (yes you still deserve beautiful getting ready photos and an evening doo to celebrate your day in full). The memories I capture are different from those staged at a huge venue but, in my opinion, offer a different, more intimate side to posed pictures with lots of guests.
The Most Beautiful Story
As a bride or groom, your day passes in a blur, and while it is a magical time, you want to stop time and relive the moments. After your day, your wedding images can transport you back and give you the pleasure of experiencing the day all over again. You will also see so many things that passed you by, and it is these incredible snaps of your family and friends that truly stand out in an intimate day with a handful of guests.
Told in Picture
The more guests there are, the longer it takes to get everyone in and out the frame for formal photos.
I find that smaller weddings tend to have a laid back vibe that makes everyone relaxed, which leads to more natural photos as I have more time to watch the room and shoot lots of fleeting moments. The look on the mother of the bride’s face as she sees her baby getting ready for her special day, the way a single tear happy tear, filled with pride and joy escapes her eyes as she sees the big reveal when dress and makeup combined. Such a look of love as the groom waits at the end of the aisle, these memories deserve to be the centre of attention, and with fewer guests, it is easy to forget the nerves and enjoy sharing with your nearest and dearest.
In a Relaxed Setting
Another important factor of having a smaller guest list is the interactions you see. With so many guests, the bride and groom can feel a lot of pressure to meet and greet everyone and get very little time to enjoy their meals, truly take in their first dance and often miss a lot of the day. In a smaller setting, the intimacy of conversations is so evident and capturing these natural moments makes my heart sing. I know from other clients that they treasure these un-staged images. If you think a smaller wedding could be your perfect day, pop me a message, and I would be honoured to attend.
